The story of the Texas Rangers winning the World Series last year is quite remarkable. They seemed to be the underdog the whole way through. They didn’t win their division, scraped into the playoffs by the fingernails and barely had a home game for the majority of their postseason run. So, repeating as world champions might even be slightly easier.
Let’s be clear, the fact the Rangers have actually claimed their first ever World Series title is momentous in itself. Many long-standing fans had come to the belief it would never happen, but after an amazing journey through the playoffs, the club lifted the Commissioner’s Trophy for the first time ever, with fans emotional and overjoyed.
It is a memory that will live on forever for those in Arlington, but what will 2024 bring? The defending champs currently sit at .500 in the American League West as they get to grips with having a bigger target on their head as the defending champs.
Embarking on another championship run would be the dream scenario for fans. However, general manager Chris Young have said they just want to field a better team in 2024, and if that leads to more success, all the better. It may not necessarily mean lifting another Commissioner’s Trophy, but they firmly believe they can improve on 90 wins and claim the American West League title.
There is a strong possibility of that happening and this an easier road for the Texans will open up to head back to the World Series in 2024. History is against them, it has been 23 seasons since a team won back-to-back titles. Can the Texans change that?
Reasons Texans could repeat as World Series Champs
The last team to repeat as World Series Champs was the Yankees in 2000, so surely that run has got to end sometime? The Rangers proved last year they can overcome adversity if tough out the slog of the regular season and then the postseason. So, having the mental application and attitude is not in question with this team.
Another factor you have to consider is the team will now have a full season with Evan Carter. He was ice-cold in the postseason last year, and the team will be hoping he can continue in that vein from the start this time. Having him available across 162 game is an exciting prospect, with his abilities with the bat and his outfield range spectacular.
Then there is manager Bruce Bochy, who proved how savvy and experienced he is by guiding the team home last year through a treacherous playoff run, keeping everyone calm and composed. There are only three managers throughout history that have won more than Bochy’s four World Series titles. He has never gone back-to-back, so the incentive is there for him set another record and cement his place in the Hall of Fame.
The core of the team also remains in place and that counts for something. They have been there and done it and are in the prime of their careers. With all of this going for them, despite what history suggests, you wouldn’t bet against them.
The Texas Rangers are currently +1400 to win the 2024 World Series Title
