UFC 300 was hyped up to be one of the best cards ever put together in the promotion’s history. While events like this don’t always meet those lofty expectations, we were able to witness some memorable moments, highlighted by a stunning buzzer-beater KO that will live long in the memory.
Let’s take a look at as some of our highlights from the UFC 300 event.
Holloway produces stunning late KO
As the seconds ticked by towards the end of the most anticipated fight on a stacked card, Max Holloway already had victory secured. If left to the scorecards, he was clearly ahead, but that wasn’t enough for him. Showing off his toughness and willingness to excite the crowd, he motioned for Justin Gaethje to meet him in the middle of the cage and trade shots in true warrior spirit.
This resulted in an absolutely brutal knockout that left Gaethje motionless, face down on the canvas with only one second to go before the final bell. Holloway was all too happy to indulge himself in the moment, screaming “I’m him” to the sellout crowd, as if anyone would have doubted that after what they had just seen.
The lightweight title fight was the most anticipated of the evening on a card that included 12 former or current champions with two title fights thrown in. We were right to be excited for this one as Holloway completely stole the whole show with that late drama. It had also been an entertaining contest up until that point, with both willing to trade blows on their feet for the duration.
It all ended as quick as a flash with that devastating right hand that will go down as one of the most famous punches ever thrown in UFC history. Following the bout, Holloway called for a featherweight title fight against Ilia Topuria. After watching this fight, sign us up for that.
Pereira shows power
Pereira showed off his power with a vicious left hook which ended his contest against Hill at 3:15 in the first round. It was the first clean shot the champion landed on his opponent, who looked rusty on his return to the Octagon following a torn Achillies that meant he was stripped of the title last summer.
The KO punch came after Hill was reprimanded by the referee for a low blow, which caused a timeout.
Bo Nickal impresses
Bo Nickal is one of the most talked about and exciting prospects to emerge in the UFC in years. He claimed his sixth successive win to start his career with a second-round submission over Cody Brundage. However, Nickal was clearly not impressed with his performance, giving two thumbs down to the crowd despite winning in dominant fashion and remaining unbeaten.
It was the first time Nickal had seen the second round in his young career and also the first time an opponent had lasted more than three minutes against him. He completely controlled the bout, it just took him slightly longer than usual to finish it off.
